Lorenzo G. Sanchez, 79, passed away October 5, 2015 at the Western Nebraska Veterans Home in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. Cremation has taken place at Dugan-Kramer Crematory in Scottsbluff. Rosary Service will be held on Friday Oct. 9th at 7pm at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bayard with visitation with the family following. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bayard, Saturday Oct. 10th at 10 am with Father David Rykwalder officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Bayard Cemetery with military honors by the United States Air Force. Memorials may be given to the church or Bayard Volunteer Fire Department. Lorenzo (aka Lawrence, Larry, L.G.) was born to Gil R. and Soledad (Gonzales) Sanchez on October 26, 1935 in Bayard, NE. He attended Bayard High School; he then enlisted in the United States Air Force from 1956 to 1960. He retired as Superintendent of Utilities for the City of Bayard after 41 years, 1960-1999. He was a volunteer EMT for the Bayard Fire Department for 26 years. He was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He also bowled on the Bayard league. Lorenzo enjoyed gardening and being outside puttering in the garage. He also enjoyed dancing, listening to music and watching sports. In 1999, the City of Bayard planted a tree in Lawrence's name as part of the Arbor Day Tree ceremony. He was instrumental in the lighting of Chimney Rock in 1982.

Lorenzo was united in marriage to Cecilia Gusman August 7, 1959 at All Souls Catholic Church in Bridgeport, NE. Lawrence and Cecilia were the King and Queen for Bayard's Chimney Rock Pioneer Days five years ago. Lorenzo & Cecilia raised their 4 sons in Bayard and have 7 beautiful grandchildren. Lionel (Cindi) Sanchez of Lincoln, NE, their children Michaun (Rod) Parayno & Chelsie (Kyle) Hayes; Greg (Marti) Sanchez of Grand Island, NE, their children Colby (Genevieve) Sanchez & Sierra Sanchez; Curtis (Tami) Sanchez of Kearney, NE, their children Jordan (Haley) Sanchez and Justine (Blake) Lewis; Darren (Jody) Sanchez of Grand Island, NE, their daughter Deanna Sanchez; 5 Great Grandchildren Mia and Lilianna Parayno, Cecilia Hayes and two on the way.

Lorenzo is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, sisters Frances (Reuben) Chacon and Angie Estrada; brother Daniel (Carol) Sanchez; brothers-in-law Leo (Carolyn) Gusman, Ron (Janet) Gusman, Marce Vasquez and Richard Sturgeon; sisters-in-law Josephine Dauphin, Phyllis Shuler, Patricia (John) Hollenback and LaDonna (Don) Loxterkamp; many Aunts, Uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law Emery and Myrtle Gusman, infant brother Kenneth; brothers-in-law John Estrada, Ben Shuler, Les Dauphin and Ron Roberts; sisters-in-law Maxine Roberts, Frances Sturgeon, Kathleen Vasquez; infant grandson Brandon Sanchez, nephew Ronald Ray Estrada as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
