

Lucile Hewitt, 94, of Scottsbluff, died Tuesday, April 8, 2008 at Heritage Estates in Gering. Her funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 11, 2008 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Jeffrey Grams officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the chapel, Thursday from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and an hour prior to service at the church on Friday. Lucile was born April 14, 1913 in Nemaha County, Ne to Herman J. and Louise S. (Oestman) Stutheit. She graduated from High School in 1930 and graduated from Boyles Business College in Omaha, NE. Lucile was a professional parliamentarian. She was clerk of the district court of Nemaha County for ten years and a legal secretary for Raymond and Sheldon Law Firm before beginning her twenty-six year employment with the Social Security Administration. She also served as personnel director for Scotts Bluff County for one year. Lucile married Vance W. Hewitt March 16, 1969 in Scottsbluff. He preceded her in death in 1978. Lucile was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church where she was financial secretary for fifteen years, and a member of the Lutheran Missionary Women’s League. A member of the Twin Cities Toastmistress, BPW, Red Cross, Monument Stamp Club, National Association for Retired Federal Employees, Nebraska State Association of Parliamentarians and gave forty years of volunteer work for the Heart Fund. Lucile was also instrumental in reorganizing Sunset Memorial Park and served as president of their board for several years. Her past honors and awards include State President award for BPW, Cosmopolitan Award, was honored by the Heart Association and the Distinguished Service Award for Parliamentarians. She is survived by her niece Joan Stutheit and her husband Steve Gardner of Houston, TX and sister-in-law Gladys Stutheit of Arroyo Grande, CA.
