

A Rosary will be recited at 10:00 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 12, both at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Scottsbluff with Father Vince Parsons serving as celebrant. Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Lisco Memorial Cemetery south of Lisco. Visitation will be on Monday from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel in Scottsbluff.

Born Mary Margaret Bellin on March 26, 1927 to Clifford M. and Margaret A. (Daily) Bellin at Bridgeport, Neb. Mary, her sister, Helen E. (Bellin) Eames and her brother, Clifford R. Bellin, grew up on a family farm three miles northwest of Lisco, Neb. Mary received her education at Thompson Grade School one mile west of the family farm. She attended Lisco High School and graduated from Garden County High School with the class of 1946.
Mary was united in marriage to Delbert Lloyd Custer of Oshkosh on October 2, 1946 in Lisco at St. Gall’s Catholic Church. The couple then lived and helped farm near Oshkosh. In 1948, they moved to Enid, OK, where her husband, Delbert, joined the Air Force. To this union, Mary and Delbert were blessed with two daughters, Deborah and Cynthia. The Custer’s lived throughout Kansas and Nebraska, and Mary worked for various businesses before moving to Bayard, Neb. in 1979, where she and Delbert established Bayard Wilbert Vault, Inc. After Delbert’s passing, Mary continued to the vault business until her retirement in 1992. Over the past years, Mary lived in Scottsbluff, and in 2008, became a resident of Northfield Retirement Community Villa, until last February where she resided at Heritage Estates in Gering. While residing at the Northfield Villa, she was an advocate on behalf of the residents and was President of the Assisted Living Resident Association Council. She also led exercise classes and established Catholic mass to be offered once a month at the Villa.
Mary was a faithful member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, a member of the Eagles, Elks, and crocheted baby blankets for the Regional West Auxiliary, as well as making one for each great-grandchild. She enjoyed fishing, camping, boating and flower gardening, her favorite past time was watching the Denver Broncos and Nebraska football. She also enjoyed traveling throughout the country and swimming at the YMCA with her friends. Mary loved her family, she was a very loving and devoted wife, mother and grandma, her door was always open to family and friends whenever in need. She will be missed by many.
Mary is survived by her daughters, Deborah (John) Blausey of Norfolk and Cynthia (John) Polk of Lakeside; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one sister, Helen (Bellin) Eames, one niece and two nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and brother, Clifford Bellin.
