

Mary K. Dowell, 85, of Scottsbluff, died Friday, May 13, 2011 at Golden Living Center in Scottsbluff. Funeral services were held with her husband’s service Friday, May 13, 2011 at First Christian Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Michael Stein officiating. Cremation was held at Sunset Memorial Park Crematory after the service. A memorial has been established to First Christian Church. Mary was born November 15, 1925 at Atchison, Kansas to Rex Harry Allen and Hermina (Richardson) Davis. She graduated from Atchison High School in 1943 and attended college at Philips University until 1945 at Enid, Oklahoma. She married Harry Edward Dowell March 24, 1945 in Fowler, KS. They lived in Enid, OK, Formoso, KS, Republican City, NE, Alma, NE, Boulder, CO, and Bayard, NE before moving to Scottsbluff in 1963. Mary was a member of First Christian Church where she served as an Elder and later Elder Emeritus. She was active in Christian Women’s Fellowship, held many church offices and sang in the church choir. Mary was very active in her children’s lives attending plays, concerts and athletic contests. She played the cello, enjoyed drama, art, embroidery and spending time with her family. She is survived by her daughters: April Holman, Oklahoma City, OK, Anita (Bob) Slie, Spring, TX and Carol (Randy) Bussey, Greeley, CO; sons: Rick Dowell, Jackson, WY and Thomas Dowell, Kansas City, MO; sister: Betty Votaw, Topeka, KS, 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, parents, infant sister Edythe Davis, grandson Levi Dowell, daughter-in-law Terrie Dowell, son-in-law Bruce Holman and brother-in-law Ellis Votaw.
