Marylin Jean Fowler was born on March 3, 1943, in Muscatine, Iowa, the first daughter of Louis and Bernice Miller. She grew up in Iowa and later attended Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa, where she earned her nursing degree.
Nursing was more than a profession to Marylin—it was a calling. She dedicated many years of her life to caring for others and continued working in the field she loved until macular degeneration affecting her eyesight forced her retirement. Throughout her career, she touched countless lives with her compassion and dedication.
In 1961, she married Lloyd McAllister, and together they welcomed five sons: Kendall, Robert, Doug, and twins James and John. Raising her sons remained one of the greatest joys and accomplishments of her life. She often said that her proudest moments were the births of her children and grandchildren and sharing in the milestones of their lives, from birthdays and graduations to weddings and everything in between.
Throughout her life, Marylin enjoyed traveling, gardening, fishing, camping, listening to audiobooks, crocheting, and watching game shows. She especially treasured time spent with her family and loved having her grandchildren visit and help with projects around the house. An enthusiastic Nebraska Cornhuskers fan, she rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on the Huskers, regardless of the sport.
In her later years, Marylin lived at Well Life Assisted Living before moving to Heritage Estates in Gering, Nebraska. Her family is deeply grateful for the compassionate care she received from the staff of both facilities, whose kindness and support meant so much to her and her loved ones.
She is survived by her sons, Kendall (Michelle) McAllister, Robert (Vicky) McAllister, and James (Becky) McAllister; her sister, Peggy (James) Apperson; 15 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her sons, Doug McAllister and John McAllister; her parents, Louis and Bernice Miller; and other loved ones who welcomed her home.
Marylin will be remembered for her caring heart, her devotion to family, and the countless lives she touched throughout her nursing career. She believed in living life to the fullest, finding joy in everyday moments and creating lasting memories with those she loved.
A Memorial Service celebrating Marylin's life will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, June 27, 2026, with Pastor Gary Hashley officiating.
