Ramona was born April 18, 1935 at Mercedes, Texas to Jesus and Josefina (Moreno) Mendez. The family moved to Western Nebraska when she was a young girl. Ramona was not afraid of hard work; she worked alongside her parents and husband hoeing beets in the fields, picking oranges, and digging potatoes over the years. It was in the beet field that Ramona met Felipe Campos whom she later married on May 4, 1961 at Sacred Heart Church in Lyman. The couple made their home in Lyman, moving to Scottsbluff four and ½ years ago.
Ramona worked for Health and Human Services for over 29 years as an in-home caregiver. Ramona was always eager to stand up for what is right. She was a good debater, was always looking for a good discussion, and hardly ever lost an argument. She liked to garden, sing, dance, was an excellent cook, enjoyed cleaning house, drawing, and sketching. In her younger years she did crochet, embroidery, cross stitch, and ironing. She liked to donate to police associations, church mission groups, and homeless shelters across the United States.
Ramona is survived by her son Roger (Stella) Campos of Torrington, WY; daughters Janie (George) Flores of Scottsbluff and Gloria Ann (Harold) Campbell of Scottsbluff; granddaughters Martika Jade Campbell of Scottsbluff, Ann Marie Campos (Nicholas M. Koch) of Torrington, WY, Amanda Lee (Steven) Stands of Scottsbluff, and Flora A (Steve) Mebly of Fort Collins, CO; grandsons Roger Campos Jr. of Torrington, WY and Anthony Andrew Campos of Fort Collins, CO; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers Jesse Mendez and Juan Mendez of Texas; sisters Lupe De La Rosa, Helen Torres, Frances Patterson, Virginia Sandoval, Irama Mendez, and Yolanda Mendez all of Texas; several nieces, nephew, and extended family members.
Ramona was preceded in death by her parents Jesus and Josefina Mendez, husband Felipe in November of 2014, and son Raul.
