Raul Magdaleno

His Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 14, 2014, at Christ the King Catholic Church in Gering with Father Gerald Harr officiating. Cremation will follow the Mass.

Friends may visit from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel in Scottsbluff. A Vigil Service will be held at 6:30 p.m., Friday, at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel. Tributes of sympathy may be left at www.dugankramer.com

Raul was born July 17, 1941, in Minatare, Nebraska to Diego and Carolina (Hernandez) Magdaleno. He received his education in Minatare. He was a devoted husband for 49 years and 10 months. He was a loving and caring father to Steven and Todd Magdaleno and a proud grandfather to Taylor, Alexis, and McCinsey. He married MaryEllen Medina on August 29, 1964. He was one of seventeen siblings. Brothers include Alfred, Diego, Ben, John, Ernie, Raymond, Gilbert, Dave, Tommy, and Paul. Sisters include Francis, Rita, Nancy, Mary Ellen, Mable, and Angeline.

He had a work ethic like no other, as a machinist at BNSF Railroad, in 18 years of service he missed just three days. He took pride in the horticulture of his home having received the Golden Spade Award many times, but his greatest pride and joy were his grandchildren. He treasured the time he spent with each of them. He loved to hear them laugh and play. He never missed an event that his sons or grandchildren participated in.

His passions were his family, music, horticulture, dancing and eating Mexican butter (Chile) including its preparation. Among other passions Raul enjoyed watching Western TV shows and movies, collecting rocks, and traveling. Raul always enjoyed looking his best for all occasions.

A sentiment from his wife, MaryEllen “To me Raul was my one and only, he was a very passionate, caring and loving man. We loved to dance whenever music was played and together we danced the best dance. Raul has always and will always hold the largest part of my heart. His embraces I will continue to have.”

Raul is survived by his wife, MaryEllen Magdaleno; sons Todd Magdaleno, and Steven Magdaleno; brothers, Diego, John, Ernie, Raymond, Gilbert, Dave, and Tommy; sisters, Rita, Nancy, Mary Ellen, Mable, and Angeline; mother-in-law, Cartina Giron; in-laws, Daniel and Norma Guzman, Mario and Julie Medina, Phillip Medina, Judy Medina, and Laura Powell; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, and great-great-nephews.

Raul was preceded in death by his grandson, Taylor; brothers, Alfred, Ben, and Paul; sister, Francis; parents, Diego and Carolina (Hernandez) Magdaleno; father-in-law, Jess Medina; stepfather, Leopold “Paul” Giron; sisters-in-law, Maria “Chita” Magdaleno, Karen Magdaleno, Molly Magdaleno and Dori Magdaleno; brother-in-law, Marvin Powell; and nephews, Michael Magdaleno, and Isaac DeLara.
