Robert “Bob” Leroy Nab was born on March 27, 1930 in Melbeta, NE –one of six children; his siblings knew him as “Sonny”. He grew up in the North Platte Valley with his family while his father worked as a farmhand on many of the Valley’s farms. Robert married Ismay “Isma” L. Thompson on November 22, 1958. In May 1968, he was blessed with the arrival of his only child, Jeffrey Scott.
Bob worked a variety of professions throughout his career; he was a farmhand as a young man – he loved to tell stories of feeding sheep during the great blizzard of 1949. For many years he drove truck – first delivering hay and then for Gifford-Hill and Hydro-conduit – delivering concrete pipe and sprinkler systems. He also served several years as a ditch rider north and east of Scottsbluff. Following all of that, he spent nearly 20 years as a milk man – first for the Platte Valley Creamery and then on his own for nearly 10 years. He then spent several years at Couplamatic (Lyman, NE), Midwest Wholesale Distributors (Pierre, SD), Coca-cola and finally 20 years as the faithful and vigilant crossing guard on Ave I in Scottsbluff – retiring in 2008. He was also a faithful usher for nearly 35 years at the Central Church of Christ.
Grandpa Bob as he was known to his grandchildren, loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them – especially playing cards, marble games and croquet. He also loved to play music – self teaching, he learned to play by ear the accordion, organ, piano and harmonica. His passion was garage sales and attending auctions. He had a keen eye for a treasure at a bargain price and loved to socialize with the regular attendees.
Bob is survived by his son, Scott Nab and his wife Lisa of Carrollton, KY; grandsons: Aaron Nab and his wife Susanna of Gering, Kaleb and Kameron Nab of Carrollton, KY; great-granddaughter: Gracelynn Nab of Gering; sisters: Violet Keller of Scottsbluff, Donna Dermer of Minatare and Betty(Peggy) Metz of Gering.
He was preceded in death by Isma his wife of 48 years in 2006, his mother Mary in 1944, father Emil in 1994, sister Norma Schwab and brother Don (Hodie) Nab.
