

Robert Dean Griswold, 77, of Scottsbluff, NE died Saturday, July 24, 2010 at his home. Cremation has taken place and interment will be at a later date in Diller, NE. Robert was born March 28, 1933 in Agenda Kansas to Lawrence and Alta (Jackson) Griswold. He graduated from Eldon High School in Missouri in 1951. He entered the Air Force August 21, 1952. He was honorably discharged August 18, 1956 as a Staff Sergeant and was in the reserve for four more years. Robert began working for the Rock Island Railroad in 1956 in Fairbury, NE. He married Sharon Plies in 1959 and they had three children: Timothy, Shari and Daniel. Robert worked as a fireman and an engineer for the Rock Island until its collapse in 1980. He then moved to Guernsey, WY where he worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad as a trainman. He transferred to Alliance, NE and worked as a conductor until his retirement in 1995 and moved to Scottsbluff. Bob was a life member of the Elks Lodge. He enjoyed expressing himself through various types of artwork which included ceramics, drawings, and paintings. He enjoyed working in his woodshop where he made toys, furniture, and other works of art. He liked to feed squirrels that came around his shop, setting peanuts on the fence post for them to grab. Robert attended classes at WNCC through the Upwards Bound Program learning computers. He very much enjoyed corresponding with family and friends through email and trading photos he had taken. He was a friend to everyone, even if he didn’t know them, and could talk with them all day about everything or nothing. Robert is survived by his wife Sharon, daughter Shari Black, and son Daniel. Grandsons: Jason Murray, Stephane Griswold, and Andrew Black; great granddaughters Isabella Black and Neveah Murray, and great-stepgrandson: Jayden Muggy. Preceding him in death were his parents, brother Clair and son Timothy.
