Roger S. Allen

Roger S. Allen, 85, of Scottsbluff, died on Sunday, July 24, 2016 at the Western Nebraska Veteran’s Home in Scottsbluff. At his request, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be given to the Western Nebraska Veteran’s Home in Roger’s name. Tributes of sympathy may be left at www.dugankramer.com.

Roger was born August 29, 1930 at Scottsbluff to Amos and Jane (Steen) Allen. He received his early education at Scottsbluff schools, graduating from Scottsbluff High School in 1948. He attended Scottsbluff Jr. College where he played basketball until 1950.

Roger was united in marriage to Carolyn Gaukel in 1953 at Scottsbluff, where they made their home. To this union, four children were born; Elizabeth, Jeffrey, Lori and Thomas. In 1950 Roger entered into the United States Navy where he worked as a Sonar Technician and served aboard the U.S.S. Marsh DE. He served for 4 years, until his honorable discharge in 1954.

When Roger returned from the Navy, he began operating his own business as a masonry contractor. He then became a T.V. Repairman for many years, working out of his basement.

Roger was an avid fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed baseball and was on a bowling league for many years. He also enjoyed spending time with all of his grandchildren.

Roger is survived by his wife Carolyn; daughter Elizabeth Allen and her daughter Sydney; son Jeffrey (Julie) and their children Clayton, Colter, and Daniel; daughter Lori (David) Curtiss and their daughter Jensen; son Thomas (TiAnn) and their children Roger and Mackenzie; brothers Robert and James; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Robert Gaukel.
