

Sharon J. Phillips, 66, of Gering, entered into Heaven on Tuesday, November 7, 2006, at University of Iowa Hospital at Iowa City, Iowa. A funeral service will be held 10:00 A.M., Monday, November 13, 2006, at Zion Evangelical Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Garry Schick officiating. Interment will be in West Lawn Cemetery at Gering. Friends may visit at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel in Scottsbluff from 1:00 to 6:00 P.M., on Saturday and Sunday. There will be a prayer service at 6:00 P.M., Sunday at the funeral home and friends are welcome to attend. Sharon Jean (Porter) Phillips was born November 23, 1939, in Gordon, Nebraska. She was adopted by the loving parents of Grant and Nellie Porter. She grew up in Gordon and graduated from Gordon High School. She worked for businesses ranging from ranches to J.C. Penney in the Gordon area. On October 11, 1959, Sharon married Dick Phillips in Gordon. From this union came five children. They lived in Chadron until 1965, when they moved to the Terrytown and Gering area to raise their children. Sharon operated a pilot car service for wide load houses and trailers for 35 years. She was known by her CB name “Brand X” in many states. She worked for the Scotts Bluff County Detention Center as a correction officer until retiring in December 2000. Sharon loved to travel and meet people. She never met a stranger and had friends and relatives from coast to coast. She was well known for her talkative personality and never ending energy to be “on the go.” Her true love was her family. She enjoyed being with her children and their families. If there was any opportunity for her to be with them, she would be there whether it was close or far. She was proud of their accomplishments and was a great supporter. She cherished each moment of her life and always kept a smile on her face and many others. Sharon was a member of the Zion Evangelical Church of Scottsbluff, Ladies Guild, Gering Valley Project Club, Mitchell Berean Church Single Group; TOPS/Loosing Weight Together, Christian Woman’s Club, Compassionate Friends of Wyo-Braska and Red Hat Society. She was a past member of the Moose Lodge, GO Auxiliary and a Bowling League. Sharon was also active with her children in 4-H, Rodeo, softball, baseball, volleyball and basketball. You could always count on her being there to watch. She loved to go swimming for the exercise and friendship. Everyone could always count on Sharon being there for all functions. People gave her great comfort. Survivors include her children, Michael and Robin Phillips of Thurston, Jim and Lennie Phillips of Helmville, Montana and Shawna and Mike Winchell of Scottsbluff; grandchildren, Garret and Karissa Phillips, Bronwyn and Kamela Bloxham, Jordan Phillips, Shelby and Libby Winchell, Samantha and Zachery Phillips; numerous nephews and nieces. Her husband, Dick; daughter, Janelle Bloxham; son, Samuel Phillips; sister, Betty Murray; and parents preceded her in death.
