Steven Welch, beloved Husband, Father, Papa, Brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2026, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, after a courageous year-and-a-half battle with cancer. While his family grieves his loss deeply, they find comfort knowing he is no longer in pain or suffering.
Steve was born on September 28, 1959, in Cozad, Nebraska, to Donald Welch and Carolyn (Mayden) Eberly. He graduated from Gothenburg High School with the Class of 1977 and spent much of his younger years enjoying farm life and custom harvesting alongside his brother, Robert—memories he cherished throughout his life.
In 1983, Steve married Pamela (Mundt) Tagart, on November 18th, where they became a blended family with a son and a daughter.
Steve had a passion for adventure and the open road. In his younger years, he loved riding dirt bikes, which later turned into a lifelong enjoyment of Harley motorcycles. His love for hard work and dedication led him to move to Alliance, Nebraska, in 1980, where he began working for the railroad. He later retired from AEP after years of employment. In 2015, Steve and Pam moved to Gering, Nebraska to be closer to family.
Above all else, Steve treasured his family. He was a devoted husband, proud father, and loving papa whose greatest joy came from those he loved.
Steve is survived by his wife, Pam Welch of Gering; his children, Corby (Jennifer) Welch of Wichita and Jodi (Mike) Lewellen of Scottsbluff; and his cherished grandchildren, Tiara, Jaxson, Brysin, Rhylan, and Joslin.
He is also survived by his mother, Carolyn Eberly; his brothers, Robert (Lynn) Welch, Randy (Angie) Welch, and Jordan (Amanda) Welch; his sister, Jana (Geoff) Welch-Chase; and sisters-in-law, Terri (John) Harmon, Cindy Martin, and Sandy Mundt along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Steve was preceded in death by his father, Donald Welch, and his stepmother, Patricia (Pat) Welch, and brother-in-law Dave Martin.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Fond memories and condolences may be left at www.dugankramer.com. Dugan Kramer Funeral Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
Steve will be remembered for his strength, hardworking spirit, love for motorcycles, devotion to family, and the way he showed up for those he loved. His presence will be deeply missed, but the memories he created will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
“Although he is gone from our sight, he will forever remain in our hearts.”
