Viola (Kihlthau) Mittleider

There will be a Graveside service on Monday, July 6 at 10:30 am at Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff with Pastor Bradley Kihlthau officiating. Fond memories and condolences may be left at www.dugankramer.com. A memorial has been established to the Missionary Ministry of the Calvary Memorial Church.

Viola was born on January 6, 1921, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to Elizabeth (Repp) and Conrad Kihlthau. She attended Lake Alice School and Minatare High School. She married Reuben Mittleider in Morrill, Nebraska November 7, 1941. She and her husband farmed in the Lake Alice Community for 34 years. Reuben passed away March 15, 1975.

After her husband’s death Viola worked at Regional West Medical Center for 11 years as a coder in the Medical Records Department. After retiring from there, she worked as a Foster Grandparent at Northfield School for 11 years.

Viola was happiest being involved in church. Serving as a Sunday School Teacher, singing in the choir and librarian for many years at the 1st Baptist Church in Scottsbluff. For many years she attended a ladies bible study on Tuesdays at the Calvary Memorial Church that her sister-in-law Nancy Kihlthau led, followed by lunch with the ladies. She was a prayer warrior for all of her family and that prayer support will be greatly missed. Her two great grandsons were her greatest joy.

Survivors include her son John Mittleider of New Mexico, Rick Dorland (son-in-law) of Colorado; grandchildren Douglas Dorland and Kimberly (Creason, by marriage) of Colorado and Dustin Dorland of Colorado; two great grandsons Alexander Dorland of Colorado and Thomas Dorland of Florida; two brothers Robert Kihlthau (wife Nancy) and Paul Kihlthau (wife Vonda) of Scottsbluff, NE.

Viola was preceded in death by her daughter Charlotte, her parents, her husband, two small children a son and daughter, brothers Harold and Ben, sisters Elizabeth Stoppel, Mary Becker, Molly Salstrom, Esther Schwabauer, and Freda Quinn; brothers-in-law Edward Stoppel, George Becker, Leroy Salstrom, Joe Schwabauer and Robert Quinn.
