A memorial has been established to Seventh Day Adventist Church. Violet was born January 20, 1925, at Bayard, Nebraska to John Sr. and Anna Marie (Groskopf) Wise. She was educated in the Bayard schools. In 1944, she married Riney Meter and later divorced. To this marriage two children were born, Sylvia A. Dempster and Sharon K. Knaub. In 1975, she married Edward Schmidt of Minatare. They then moved to Scottsbluff to make their home. Violet’s hobbies included sewing, embroidering, crocheting, reading and baking her favorite cakes, pies, cookies, and bread. She was very devoted to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and treasured every moment she spent with them. Probably, the most precious pastime for Violet was going out to lunch with her special friends. Violet had often said, “to have friends you must be a friend.” So to her friends, Diane and Atwood, Carol, Bonnie, Irene, and Harry and Marian, and all her other special friends – she will miss you dear friends. Violet worked as a caregiver for several families in the community, she also worked for the Heritage Nursing Home and Carl’s Cleaners. Violet retired in 1990. Violet was an active member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church and held the following positions: Sabbath School teacher for five years, church board clerk for 10 years, Sabbath School secretary and deaconess. Her church family was very important to her and provided her with moral and spiritual support. Violet loved to attend the many activities of the church – the fellowship was her reward. Violet will be sadly missed and is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Sylvia A. (Bill) Dempster and Sharon K. (Harvey) Knaub; five grandchildren, Teresa Dempster, Christina Natvig, David (Julie) Dempster, Kimberly Knaub Smith and Dr. Troy (Joell) Knaub; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; two stepchildren, Richard Schmidt of California and Valerie Russell of Minatare; five stepgrandchildren; sister, Lydia Sieb of Gering; and several nieces and nephews. Violet was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Riney in 1988 and Ed in 1989; six brothers, Jake, John, Fred, Sam, Daniel, and Carl: and three sisters, Mary Henkel, Mollie Hoff, and Frieda Johnson.
