Arlene L Hogland

Arlene Luckey Hogland, 98, passed away on January 27, 2017. She was born on November 20, 1918 to Thad and Cottie Luckey in Hugo, OK. Arlene moved from Hugo at a very young age, to Peerless, TX where her family worked as sharecroppers on a farm raising cotton and corn. At age 13, her mother passed away and Arlene, being the senior daughter, became responsible for housekeeping, cooking and taking care of her two younger sisters, Flora Mae and Dora Lynn. She did all of this while also helping to gather the crops in the fields. During 1946, she married John H. Hogland who worked for the Flour Company. Together they traveled throughout the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico building oil refineries. During the war, Arlene worked as a welder on ships. She also worked for several years for Garland ISD. Arlene also enjoyed sewing, cooking and raising her grandchildren. She was a faithful servant to her Lord and loved to read the Bible, forwards, backwards and as her grandson stated, even upside down. Preceding her in death are her parents Thad and Cottie Luckey; husband John Hogland; son Reed Hyatt; daughter Cottie Stephens; brothers: Alvie Luckey, T. Luckey and Wilber Luckey; sisters: Ida Yandal, Myrtle Thompson, Christine Luckey and Dora Lynn Ponder. Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter Gail Bradshaw and husband, Jim; sister Flora Mae Story; seven grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and eleven great-great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends that will miss her dearly. Services will be held on Thursday, February 2, 2017, visitation 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home in Seagoville, TX. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Seagoville, TX, where she will be laid to rest in the Garden of Scriptures.
