We mourn the passing of Barbara Marie Carol, who peacefully went to be with her Lord on January 2, 2025. Born on August 15, 1939, Barbara is survived by her devoted husband of 64 years, Ed Carol, their three children, and seven grandchildren. Her children, along with their spouses, are Jason and Michelle, Melissa and Mark, and Terry and Diana. Her grandchildren include Robert, Michael, Madeline, Emma, Victoria, Lauren, and Johnathan.
Barbara was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, to Don and Carolyn Gentry. She was raised in Topeka, Kansas, alongside her younger sister, Mary Dee, and her brother, James. She graduated from Topeka High School in 1957, and later attended Kansas State University, where she became a proud member of the Kappa Delta sorority. She graduated in 1960 with a degree in Elementary Education.
While at Kansas State, Barbara met Ed Carol, and they were married on December 30, 1960. They initially lived at Fort Hood, Texas, before moving to Dallas, where Barbara taught as a substitute teacher and later became a 4th-grade teacher at both Runyon and Cuellar Elementary Schools. She retired after many years of dedicated service to education. Barbara and Ed raised their three children in Dallas before relocating to Kaufman, Texas, after their youngest child graduated from high school.
Barbara was an active and dedicated member of her community. She volunteered with the Kaufman Library, First United Methodist Church of Kaufman, and the Daughters of the American Revolution. A gifted craftswoman, Barbara loved needlepoint and crochet, and she was a master-level bridge player. But above all, her world revolved around her family—her beloved husband, children, and grandchildren—as well as her unwavering faith in the Lord.
Barbara's legacy of love, kindness, and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. God bless her soul.
A memorial service will be held on January 11, 2025, at 1:00 PM at First United Methodist Church in Kaufman, Texas.
