Betty Mae Smith, of Crandall, Texas, passed peacefully from this life to the next, surrounded by her family, on Wednesday, August 5, 2026. She will always be remembered as a loving mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to all who knew and loved her. She was born on April 28, 1935, in Eldorado, Texas, to Lucille Davis and William Clyde “Shorty" Doyle. She was preceded in death by her husband Ray Smith and her parents.
She is survived by her children Dan Cunningham and wife Michele, Danette Dykema and husband Hershel; grandchildren Amanda Duffus and husband Dustin, Austin Cunningham, Tanner Dykema and wife Amber, Trever Dykema and wife Rubi, Trent Dykema and wife Addy, Shannon Cunningham and Shane Cunningham; her great-grandchildren Makinley Duffus, Carson Duffus, Monnie Dykema, and cat Callie.
Betty loved cats, home decorating, family, and the Kansas City Chiefs. She had a flair for fashion and a welcoming, congenial personality. A gifted seamstress and devoted homemaker, she created beautiful clothing for herself and her children and provided a loving home for her family. Betty was also an “Avon Lady” in the 70’s with her best friend Carole Dow. In 1983, she began a career as the head payroll officer of Greene County, Missouri, from which she retired in 2008. She was dearly loved by family and friends alike and will be deeply missed.
