He was born on a farm in Canby, Minnesota, where he grew up learning the values of hard work and family.
At 17, Darold joined the United States Navy and proudly served during World War II. After his service, he built a career in construction.
Darold rarely missed important moments in the lives of those he loved—births, weddings, games, graduations, and celebrations. He kept nearly everything anyone ever made or gave him, writing the giver’s name and date on the back, believing nothing given with love was ever small.
Darold possessed a kind of wealth that had nothing to do with money. It was the wealth of generosity, presence, and unconditional love, richer than gold and far rarer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Emilia Eilers Keiser, his siblings Arvin Keiser, Le Deal Oen, Charlotte Westfield, Donald Keiser, and William “Bill” Keiser Jr., his wife, Elizabeth Catherine (Copp) Essary Keiser, his stepdaughter Darla Essary, his stepdaughter Rebecca Carol Essary Uhl, his stepsons Thomas Essary and James “Jimbo” Essary, and his grandchildren Randi Essary and Joel Neilsen.
He is survived by his sister, Darolene Holmlund of Minnesota, his daughter, Joni Neilsen of Thornton, CO. Mary and Carl Morris of Sachse, TX. Stephen and Deborah Essary of Houston, TX. Teresa Essary of Mesquite, TX. and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family members, and friends.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 17, at 11:00 a.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home, 1000 S Hwy 175, Seagoville, TX 75159. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m., with burial at 2:00 p.m.
