

Dorothy Ann Barina Hoenig, of Mesquite, Texas, passed away on September 2, 2026, in Mesquite, Texas. She will always be remembered as a loving sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend to all who knew and loved her.
Dorothy was born on October 9th, 1940, in Sylvester, Texas, to Frank Henry Barina, Sr., and Idella Barina. Dorothy was the oldest of eight children, and looking out for others was simply part of who she was. She was proud to have been voted “Most Likely to Succeed” by her high school graduating class and became the first member of her family to attend college when she enrolled at Hardin-Simmons University in 1960. Dorothy loved her family fiercely and was always ready to help when someone needed her. She was strong-willed, determined, and never afraid to push those around her to be the best version of themselves.
Dorothy was a longtime and devoted member of Galloway Avenue Baptist Church, where she worshiped and served for many years. She enjoyed working and volunteering at the State Fair of Texas and taking part in church outings and activities each year. Her faith was an important part of her life, as was the time she spent with her family, friends, and community. Dorothy will be deeply missed by the many people who knew and loved her, and she will be remembered for her strength, determination, generosity, and unwavering love for the people in her life.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Frank Henry Barina, Sr., and Idella Barina; daughter, Sheila Stephens; sisters, Georgia Ausburne, Gail Sharp, and Rita Evans; and brother, Frank Barina.
Dorothy is survived by her son, John Croan of Mesquite, Texas; grandson, Dalton Wagener and wife, Katelyn, of Temple, Texas; granddaughter, Brooke Wagener of Dallas, Texas; sister, Wanda Rodriguez of Gun Barrel City, Texas; brother, James Ervin Barina of Mesquite, Texas; sister, Mary Barina of Rockwall, Texas; and countless nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation will be held from 10:00–11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 5, at Roselawn Funeral Home Chapel in Seagoville, Texas. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m., with interment to follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
