Wilford “Duane” Stephens (85) of Seagoville, TX passed away on November 6, 2023. Duane was born to Guy and Nellie Stephens on May 1, 1938, in Quanah, TX. Growing up, he helped on his family farm, played basketball for the Quanah Indians, and enjoyed FFA. Duane met his beautiful bride-to-be, Thelma “Lou” Seaton, in high school, and they married in 1959.
His experience on the family farm, and his American Farmer Degree, prepared him for a life of agriculture. Duane was a very hard worker; his passion for John Deere tractors and farm equipment was evident. Duane spent most of his career on Beach Farms in Mesquite, TX as the Farm Manager. Here, he was the go-to man for all things agriculture. His beautiful crops and gardens helped to feed so many people. If you needed a tractor or any other equipment repaired, or if you had questions about cattle management, he was the man.
His children have fond memories of being raised on a farm. Duane wanted everyone who visited to feel welcome, always making sure that friends and family had fun fishing, riding go-carts on the land, and enjoying the farm life. Duane and Lou spent their retirement years in Eustace, TX, appreciating the country landscape and taking care of their many animals.
Duane is survived by his wife Lou, 4 children: Delana Morris, husband Robert, Marinda Stephens, fiancé Mark, Michael Stephens, wife Natalie, Nelletta Ivey, husband Wade. 6 grandchildren: Jeramey Whitehouse, wife Lacey, Jason Trent, wife Calista, Amber Conner, husband Ricky, Candace Welch, husband Clay, Brent Stephens, wife Hannah, Kayce Ivey. 11 great-grandchildren: Katie, Aiden, Declan, Emersyn, Abigail, Brycen, Keigan, Jackson, Callie, Ellie, and baby boy Stephens on the way.
