

Ellen’s favorite and most joyful roles in life were that of a mother and grandmother, though she shaped the minds and touched the hearts of many. With a passion for education, she received her Master of Education from Texas A&M University-Commerce and taught at Crandall High School for many years. Ellen found peace in tending her garden, adventure in her travels, inspiration in her reading, and purpose in caring for her family.
Ellen is survived by her children, Amber Lynette Smyth and her husband Kevin Bryce Smyth, Andrew Jared Smith, Jaimi Lynne Stockstill, and Leah Noelle Stockstill and her husband Vladislav Sergei Ilyenkov Steere; her grandchildren, Brett J. Sturdivant, Maecie Nicole Smyth, Haley Bryanne Smyth, Lindsey Bryce Smyth, Emmalynne Ellenore Trinidad, Brixlynne Brielle Stockstill, and Aizelynne Adelle Stockstill; her great-grandchildren, Harper Leigh and Carson Bryce Riley; and her sister, Ruby Daphine Cooper.
Ellen is preceded in death by her aforementioned parents as well her siblings, Henry Eugene Sturdivant, Catherine Sturdivant Abbas, and Jesse Carl Sturdivant.
A visitation will be held at Roselawn Funeral Home, located at 1000 S Highway 175, Seagoville, TX 75159, on February 15, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm.
The funeral service will follow at Roselawn Funeral Home on the same day, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
A committal service will take place at Oakland Cemetery, 3900 Oakland Cir, Dallas, TX 75215, on February 15, 2026, from 3:30 pm to 4:00 pm.
