Fern grew up in Grand Prairie, Texas, and graduated from Grand Prairie High School, class of 1951. On September 1, 1951, she married "the love of her life", Melvin L. York.
Fern was a woman full of life and love. She loved baking cakes, pies, candies, cookies, you name it and she could bake it. She would say if it did not turn out right, then feed it to the coyotes/critters out beyond the fence. She was a fantastic cook and homemaker for her family. Fern enjoyed flower gardening, quilting, needle point, embroidering, plastic crafts, and upholstering car seats (Diamond Back, Roll n Tuck designs) plus upholstering furniture. She upholstered Victor's 1964 Chevrolet car seats in black material roll n tuck design. Victor's friends were amazed. One asked if he thought she would do the same for him. Mom said, "no son". If she did for one then she felt more would be in line right behind him.
Fern was preceded in Death by her Husband, Melvin L. York and their sons, Joe York and Ricky York. Along with her parents, Herbert and Elsie Finley; and 5 brothers and 3 sisters.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Tex & wife Sherry York, Rocky and wife Margaret York, Victor York, and Daughter, Sherita Oldfield; her sister, Pat Brown of Edgewood TX; grandchildren, Michele Cook, Amy McFadden, Dustin York, Kara York, Ashley Kinder, Beau York, Jared York; Great-Grandchildren, Ty, Taya, Jak, Jentry, Colin, Jeremiah, Emma & Mia, Brooklyn Raycee and Dawson, and Great-Great Grands Hadleigh, Hayes, and Harley
