Gary Lee Carrier, of Seagoville, Texas, passed away on July 7, 2026, in Mesquite, Texas. He will always be remembered as a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend by all who knew and loved him.
Gary was born on June 5, 1950, in Waterloo, Iowa, to Ivan and Elnor Carrier. When he was about six months old, his family moved to Texas. He always joked that he wasn't born in Texas, but he got there as fast as he could. On November 2, 1970, he married the love of his life, Yvonne Matthews, and together they shared 55 wonderful years of marriage.
We celebrate the life of a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather and great-grandfather, cherished brother, and loyal friend. Gary was the kind of man people could always count on. With a servant's heart, whether it was fixing a pipe, solving a problem, or helping someone in need, he was always willing to lend a hand.
Gary proudly served his country during the Vietnam War, answering the call with courage and honor. His military service reflected the sense of duty that defined his life. He never sought recognition for what he had done; he simply lived with humility, integrity, and honor.
If you knew Gary, you knew he could settle in to watch an old Western any day, especially if it starred Clint Eastwood or John Wayne. But if there was one place where he truly came alive, it was around the table, making sure everyone had plenty to eat. Feeding family and friends was one of the many ways he showed his love. Family gatherings, holidays, birthdays, and even ordinary weekends didn't feel complete without him at the grill smoking ribs, frying his famous chicken legs, or baking a ham. He loved telling stories, sharing laughter, and making sure everyone left with a full stomach and a happy heart.
Gary had a joyful spirit that made everyone feel welcome. His laughter was contagious, his smile was genuine, and he had a special gift for making others laugh. Whether through a joke or a kind word, he reminded those around him that laughter truly is one of life's greatest blessings.
His hands built, repaired, protected, and provided. His heart loved generously, and his legacy lives on through every child, grandchild, and great-grandchild who carries a part of him forward.
Gary is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Yvonne Carrier; his daughter, Tammy Norton and husband, Dennis, of Scurry, Texas; his sons, Kevin Carrier and wife, Shauna, of Oak Grove, Louisiana, and Kyle Carrier and wife, Elizabeth, of Forney, Texas; his grandchildren, Caleb Carrier, Kaitlyn Norton, Sharion McDonald, Kalie Carrier, Kendall Norton, Kevin Vance Carrier, Kamryn Carrier, Nevaeh Espiritu, Savannah Carrier, Kade Norton, Abriela Tellez, Keyleigh Carrier, Ethaniel Matte, Trinity Carrier, and Matthew Carrier; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is also survived by his sisters and brothers, Shirley Arnold, Judy Young, Renea Tucker, Jerry Carrier, and Richard Carrier.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ivan and Elnor Carrier; his brother, Larry Carrier; his sister, Peggy Smith; and his beloved grandson, Zeth Carrier.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 13, 2026, at Roselawn Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 10:00 a.m. in the Roselawn Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Kemp Cemetery.
