

Today we celebrate the life of Gay Deon Bassett, born September 2, 1942 in Hart, Texas to Lester and Lucille McDonald. She died February 7, 2024, in Dallas, Texas. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Dorman Wright Bassett.
Gay is survived by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren as follows: Daughter Deon Gordon, granddaughter Samantha Lovely, her husband Joseph Lovely and great grandchildren Charlotte Lovely and Henry Dorman Lovely; daughter Karen Padgett, her husband Jeff Padgett, granddaughter Kati Shives, her husband David Shives and great granddaughter Margrett Shives, her grandson Jeffrey Padgett, Jr., his wife Kristin Padgett and great grandchildren Foster Colinger, Gunnar Padgett and Audrey Padgett; her son Jon Bassett, his wife Dana Bassett and grandchildren Blake Bassett and Jade Bassett; and her son Mitch Bassett and his wife Valerie Bassett.
Gay is preceded in death by her parents Lester and Lucille McDonald, and her two sisters Roma Woolfolk and Lillian Liles. She is survived by her sisters Joyce Tedder and Judith Gooch and many nieces and nephews.
We also celebrate the life of Dorman Wright Bassett, born November 28, 1935 in Neshoba County, Mississippi to Oscar and Nellie Bassett. He died May 5, 2020, in Dallas, Texas.
Dorman was preceded in death by his parents Oscar and Nellie Bassett, brothers Paul Bassett, Floyd Bassett, Alton Bassett, Howard Bassett, Stancel Bassett, Henry Bassett and sisters Delma Bassett, Mary Brown, Evon Beckham and Mildred Tatum. In addition to Dorman and Gay’s children, grandchildren and great grandchildren he is survived by his sisters Jo Smith and Martha Fornea and many nieces and nephews.
Dorman and Gay married April 4, 1961 after meeting at a revival in West Texas. Their faith in God was very important to them. He ministered and she had a beautiful voice, which she used to the glory of God. Dorman was incredibly proud to have Gay as his wife and often introduced her by saying, “Have you met my beautiful wife?”
The couple lived in Marshall, Austin, Dallas and Mesquite, Texas. They were members of the Church of God. Gay worked for over 30 years at US Ink in Dallas until her retirement.
Dorman graduated from Lee College in Tennessee where he studied Theology. He was a salesman at heart. Aside from the passion he had for preaching the Word of God he also sold vacuum cleaners and life insurance, managed several gas stations over the years and he was talented tile setter and handyman.
Their lives centered around their faith and they attended church every time the doors were open.
A celebration of life for Gay will be held Saturday, March 16, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Roselawn Funeral Home, 1000 S Highway 175, Seagoville, TX 75159. Following the celebration of life will be a committal service from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, 1000 S Hwy 175, Seagoville, TX 75159.
