

James Durwood Corder, 86, passed away on January 5, 2016 at his home in Combine, TX. He was born on July 4, 1929 to Archie Franklin and Velma Ruth (Blackman) Corder in Scurry, TX. James was a 32nd degree active member of the Masonic Lodge in Scurry, TX and had been a member since 1957. He was retired from Ray’s Sporting Goods in Dallas, TX after 30 years of service as a gunsmith. James was very talented in machine tooling and at one time operated his own machine shop. He attended Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Scurry. Affectionately known as Grandpa, he enjoyed quality time with his family, which was one of his greatest pleasures. Preceding him in death are his parents Archie and Velma Corder and sister, Evelyn Joyce Massey. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of almost 68 years, Vera (Eves) Corder; children: Robert Lee Corder and wife, Mary, Janice Pipkin, Sam Corder, Clay Corder and Rachel Stock; grandchildren: Eric Loveless, Karen Diane Albarez, Ricky Corder, Jeff Corder, Heather Stock and Nicole Northcutt; great-grandchildren: Nico, Brittany, Tabitha, Amanda, Tyler and Liam; great-great-grandchildren: Skyler and Adeline; extended family and many friends that will miss him dearly. Visitation will be 3:00 – 5:00 pm on Friday, January 8, 2016 at Roselawn Funeral Home, Seagoville, TX. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Scurry, TX.
