With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Janet Hitt Cole, who went home to be with the Lord on Monday, September 21, 2026, at her home in Dallas. She was a beloved mother, proud grandmother, devoted aunt, faithful friend, and a source of kindness and encouragement to all who knew her. Her warm smile, generous
spirit, and unwavering faith left a lasting impact on countless lives.
Janet was born in Dallas on August 25, 1944, to Howard C. Hitt and Marie Ballantine. She graduated from Bryan Adams High School in 1962 and went on to build a remarkable career at McShan Florist, where she worked for more than 40 years. Whether serving customers, coworkers, family, or friends, Janet had a gift for making people feel valued and cared for. After retirement, she continued her lifelong dedication to helping others through her volunteer work at White Rock Center of Hope.
Faith was the foundation of Janet's life. She was a devoted member of Lakeside Baptist Church, now Lakepointe Church, where she faithfully served for many years in the children's Sunday school and nursery ministries. She found great joy in nurturing young lives and building meaningful relationships within her church family. In recent years, she treasured the fellowship of her church life group and the friendships she formed through chair yoga and chair volleyball at Harry Stone Recreation Center. Wherever Janet went, she cultivated friendship, offered encouragement, and shared her caring heart.
Above all, Janet loved her family. She is survived by her daughters, Christy Gilbert and Tracy Gilbert; her adored niece, Misty Marise; and her beloved grandson, Zachary Chitwood, and his wife, Dania. They will forever cherish the love, wisdom, laughter, and unwavering support she brought to their lives.
Though her presence will be deeply missed, Janet's legacy lives on in the many lives she touched through faithful service, genuine friendship, and unconditional love. Her family finds comfort in knowing she is at peace and reunited with those who went before her.
Visitation will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, September 28, at Roselawn Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service at 10:00 a.m. in the Roselawn Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Combine, Texas.
