Born on February 7, 1951, in Dallas, Texas, to Odie Cole and Johnny Pickard Cole, Julia grew up in Seagoville, Texas. She later made her home in Tool, Texas, where she spent the last 25 years of her life.
Julia devoted her life to caring for others. She served as a Critical Care Nurse for 25 years and later spent 10 years as a House Supervisor at Methodist Central Hospital. Throughout her nursing career, she touched countless lives with her skill, compassion, strength, and unwavering dedication. Patients, coworkers, and friends alike knew her as someone who could bring comfort and calm during life’s most difficult moments.
While her professional accomplishments were many, Julia’s greatest joy was her family. She was a loving mother to Matt Willingham, Amy Willingham, and David Willingham. She was an adoring grandmother to Devon Willingham, Drew Willingham, Elizabeth Brown Willingham, and Quentin Willingham. Nothing made her happier than spending time with her children and grandchildren, celebrating their accomplishments, encouraging their dreams, and sharing in their lives.
Julia had a deep appreciation for life’s simple treasures. She enjoyed collecting sea glass, birdwatching, photography, and spending time with those she loved. She possessed a curious mind, a generous heart, and a remarkable ability to find beauty in everyday moments.
Those who knew Julia will remember her intelligence, independence, quick wit, and fierce devotion to her family. She never hesitated to stand up for what she believed was right. Her strength carried others through difficult times, and her kindness left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
To her children and grandchildren, she was more than a mother and grandmother—she was their biggest supporter and greatest fan. She celebrated their victories, encouraged their creativity, and believed in them even when they doubted themselves. Her love was steady, unconditional, and ever-present.
Julia was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ron Willingham, who passed away in 2020.
She leaves behind a legacy of love, service, compassion, strength, and family that will continue to live on through all who knew and loved her.
The family finds comfort in knowing that the woman who spent her life caring for others is now at peace.
“Smile. It makes the rest of the world wonder what you’ve been up to.”
— Julia Willingham
