Lewis Henry Hammonds, Damage Control Chief, United States Navy Retired, age 72 passed away at his home April 1, 2016 in Kapolei, Hawaii. Lewis was born in Athens, Texas on April 9, 1943 to Louis Minis Hammonds and Lillie Mae Vick. He grew up in Rice and joined the United States Navy at the age of 17, Lewis retired from the Navy in 1990 and went to work with the Immigration and Naturalization Service for almost 20 years. On November 11, 1976 he married Sumiko Katakura and eventually made their home in Kapolei, Hawaii. He is survived by wife of over 39 years Sumiko; sisters Patsy Knott, Rebecca E. Roberts, Senie R. Estes, Deborah Harrod, Berthie Mesker, Karen Chisolm, Virginia Bellamy; brothers Sonny Hammonds, Leslie Hammonds and Wesley Hammonds; and numerous nieces and nephews. Lewis was preceded in death by his parents Lillie Vick Estes, Ruben O. Estes and Louis M. Hammonds; sisters Mary Elizabeth Hammonds and Vivian Glenda Carroll; and brother Roy Lee Hammonds.
