Born on February 5, 1939, in Floresville, Texas, Lupe grew up in the Pleasanton area, where she was raised by her paternal grandmother, Maria Talamantez. From an early age, Lupe learned the value of hard work, working alongside her family picking cotton and laboring in the fields. Those early years helped shape the strong, determined woman she would become. Lupe was always proud of her physical strength, and she carried that same toughness and resilience with her throughout her life.
In 1959, Lupe married the love of her life, Cristobal Garza. As Chris worked building bridges, their growing family made its way north toward the bustling Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area, first stopping in Temple, Texas, then Oak Cliff, before finally making Balch Springs their home. In 1965, Lupe settled into the home where she would spend the rest of her years, building a lifetime of memories within its walls.
Above all else, Lupe’s greatest pride and purpose was being a mother. She ran her household with love, dedication, and an unmistakable authority. Her home was her domain, and she was most certainly the boss. Everything had its place, and Lupe took great pride in keeping her home beautiful and her family cared for. Whether she was cooking a favorite meal, baking something delicious, or making sure everything was just right, she had a way of making a house feel like home.
Lupe was a woman of many talents. She could sew, cook, bake, and keep a home in immaculate order, all while tending to the plants and gardens she loved. She had a special touch with her roses, rosemary, aloe vera, and purple heart plants, as well as her beloved pecan trees. Her hands were rarely idle, and the care she poured into her home and the things she loved reflected the same devotion she gave to her family.
Her strong work ethic extended beyond her home as well. Lupe worked in housekeeping for Southwestern Bell, later known as Lucent Technologies, and for the Mesquite Rodeo. She took pride in her work and in keeping things looking their best, always carrying herself with the determination and attention to detail that defined her.
But Lupe was more than her hard work and her many accomplishments. She loved to dance, had a wonderful sense of humor, and knew how to bring laughter into a room. She was a proud Tejana whose strength was matched by her love for her family and her ability to make life memorable. She lived life with grit, grace, and a personality all her own. Those who knew Lupe will remember not only how hard she worked and how well she cared for others, but also her laughter, her dancing, her sharp wit, and the unmistakable presence she brought wherever she went.
Lupe’s love will continue to live on through the family she nurtured, the traditions she carried forward, and the countless memories made in the home she so lovingly kept.
She is survived by her children, Raymond Garza and his wife, Vera; Dan Garza and his wife, Diana; and Silvia Dominguez and her husband, Javier. She was a beloved Memaw to ten grandchildren: Heather, Heath, Patricia, Gabriel, Patrick, Daniel, Zachary, Zavier, Javier “Lil’ Javi,” and Taylor “Sister.” Her legacy continues through her eight great-grandchildren: Addyson, Kynidee “KK,” Jax, Marley, Layla, Heath Jr. “Lil’ Heath,” Sophia, and Liam. She is also survived by her brother, Augustine “Flaco” Talamantez, along with numerous loving extended family members and cherished friends.
Lupe was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 44 years, Cristobal Garza; her special and loving cousin, Luis Talamantez; and her great-grandson, Mason Garza.
Though Lupe’s hands may rest, the love she gave, the strength she embodied, and the memories she created will remain in the hearts of her family for generations to come. Her life was a testament to hard work, devotion, and the enduring love of a woman who built her world around the people and things she held dear. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
