He was born on February 8, 1960, in Mesquite, Texas, to Bobby and Adrin Wood.
Mark shared an unbreakable bond with his mother, Bobby Wood, who exemplified what it meant to be a loving and devoted parent. She was his greatest source of comfort, his unwavering protector, and his truest advocate. Her love was the foundation of his life, guiding him through hardships and celebrating his triumphs. The connection they shared was profound, and her passing left a void in his heart that nothing could replace. His love for her was immeasurable, but it was only secondary to the love he held for his wife, Lydia.
To Mark, Lydia was more than a partner—she was his soulmate, the one he wished to “ride the waves of time with.” Their love was a force that transcended this world, and her passing in 2019 was the greatest sorrow of his life. He spoke of her often, longing for the day when they would be reunited. Now, in eternity, that longing has come to an end. Without the weight of time and loss, they are together once more, their souls intertwined as they were always meant to be.
Mark worked as an electrician lineman until a work-related injury in 2003 forced him into early retirement. He had a deep passion for dirt bikes and fast cars, drawn to the thrill and freedom they provided. After his father’s passing, he found another steady presence in John Stewart, his mother’s husband, who cared for Mark in the years following the loss of both his wife and mother, offering him support and companionship in his hardest times.
Mark is survived by his son, Mark Sanderson of Krugerville, Texas, and his two grandchildren, Isla and Rafe Sanderson. Though his life was marked by both joy and struggle, he is now at peace, reunited with those he loved most—his mother, his father, John, and most of all, Lydia. Together, they are whole once more.
A private service will be held at a later date. In honor of Mark’s memory, the family asks those who knew him to cherish their loved ones, just as he so deeply cherished his own.
