Nancy was born on Saturday, December 30, 1950 to Darwin Dorsey Prince and Ellen Louise Waggoner Prince. Her parents lived on Woodbury Lane in Balch Springs, where she was born at St. Paul Hospital in Dallas, Texas. Nancy attended High School in Seagoville, Texas.
In 1965, Nancy met Lonnie Ray Sikes at Black's Grocery on Murdock Road in Dallas, Texas and got married on Saturday, December 9, 1967 at her home in Seagoville. She had two children, Charles Ray Sikes and Jimmy Allen SIkes, 8 Grandchildren, and 14 Great-Grandchildren. Nancy and Lonnie were married for 56 years. She was a loving wife and a dedicated mother and grandmother. Her life revolved around her family and was proud of each and every one.
Nancy worked at Texas Instruments during the Vietnam War. When the war came to an end, Nancy and her Husband decided to go into business and opened retail stores in Dallas and Balch Springs. Nancy liked to help others by doing volunteer work for the Salvation Army, served on several boards and commissions for the City of Balch Springs, helped raise money for the Pony Baseball League in Balch Springs, the Santa Cop program, the 1st Annual Fireworks Show, Parades, The Kids Town Project, and sending care packages to soldiers overseas. In 1993, she ran for City Council and won. She immediately started working with the new council to upgrade the Police and Fire Departments by putting a Certificate of Obligation package to build a Police and Fire Complex, Recreation Center, and other necessary projects to put before the voters. She and others campaigned hard for those CO's, and they passed! During her terms as Mayor pro-tem, with help from the Mayor and other members of the Council, the city was able to build a Police and Fire Complex, Recreation Center, replace old used squad cars for new ones, get a new Fire Truck, and add an extension to the Senior Center. For Nancy's efforts to help people in need, and for making things better for her community, she was awarded the "Woman Who Makes A Difference" Award by the International Women's Forum.
