Many fond memories to treasure while working with Ray at Wilson Plywood and Door for  over a decade starting back in 1992.  He was a great teacher and friend-- sharing with us newbies all his stored-up knowledge of the world of doors and trim.  When I started, he had been at Wilson longer than anyone there.  I know he was a big part of the reason Wilson was successful all these years. 
    With a smile I remember learning the swing of the doors.  It was important to know if a door was a right-hand swing or left-hand swing. Really?? At first, he demonstrated opening the door and how to tell what swing it was.  I wasn't grasping that at all.  So I learned by backing my backside to the hinges and which ever way the door swung that was the swing. Easy!  I never forgot that lesson even after being gone from Wilson for many years now.
    Ray was always helpful, patient, kind and easy going. He was a good leader and example to all of us.  I do remember that look on his face when I would question "Are you sure that's right?"   I learned to trust that yes, Ray was right. 
    Heart felt prayers and condolences to all of Ray's family and friends and to his Wilson Plywood and Door family as well.  He will be truly missed.    




To the Godfather of Wilson Plywood & Door - may you rest in peace. I'm so thankful to have gotten to know you. You are one of the most serious, but funny, people I've ever met. Most people are mostly silly or mostly serious, but you were an equal mix of both. I so missed our morning meetings when I started working from home. You were like a morning cup of coffee to me. We always took a moment to catch up with each other every morning. One of us would usually have the other one laughing. You taught me so much at Wilson, I'm so appreciative of your knowledge and you taking the time to teach me. You were such a soft-spoken person, you never had to raise your voice to be heard (not that you never did, but it was rare). Everyone went to you for everything. And your love for your wife (and vice versa) is something to be admired and worked towards. Work will never be the same without you. You will be terribly missed. When I returned to the office in August, I was so excited to see you that I ran up to you and blindsided you with a hug which I know caught you off guard - oops. But it was just so good to see you again. I know you don't like being the center of attention, but I'm thankful for the opportunity to celebrate your life tomorrow with everyone else that loves you. I hope you're enjoying seeing your Snickers and that y'all are able to take some fun walks and find lots of treasures. Beth, thank you for sharing your husband with us. He meant so much to so many different people. It was a privilege to be able to call him a friend.
