

Reuel was born March 19, 1935, in Hot Springs, Arkansas to Lowell and Roxie Hughes. He was their only child and grew up in Hot Springs.
He joined the marines in 1953 and served in Korea, Japan, and Hawaii. He relocated to Dallas, Texas for job opportunities after returning from the military. His parents were in Texas as his father was in the Air Corps.
Reuel was very artistic and worked in graphics at the Balfour Company. After the local plant closed in 1995, he worked at various jobs until fully retiring in 2006.
He and his beloved wife Linda met after being set up on a blind date arranged by a family friend and the two were married on December 22, 1979. They spent 45 years and seven precious months together.
When not working, Reuel was an avid crossword puzzle worker, particularly the New York Times. He wasn't fond of the easy ones and was so devoted to his craft he even collected a few crossword dictionaries to hone his skills.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lowell and Roxie Hughes and his daughter, Tamra Hughey.
Left to cherish in his memory are his wife, Linda Hughes; daughters, Rhonda Perdew and husband Wes, Christi Prettyman and husband John; grandchildren, Christopher Lee, Tara Ehrenberg and husband Jason, Ashley Sprouse, Jeremy Hughey and wife Katie and his great-grandchildren Casey, Kayleigh, Elle, Madigan, Caden, Makalyn, Gracie, Ava, and Harley.
A celebration of life for Reuel will be held Thursday, August 7, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Roselawn Funeral Home, 1000 S Highway 175, Seagoville, TX 75159.
The family wants to take the opportunity to express their appreciation for the nurses and CNA’s who took such great care of Reuel during his time at Ridgecrest Health and Rehab in Forney.
