Richard Anthony Curtis

Richard Anthony Curtis of Combine, Texas, passed away on Saturday, December 17, 2022 in Dallas, Texas. He will be remembered as a funny and loving husband, son, father, brother, uncle, cousin and friend to all that knew and loved him. He will also affectionately be known as Pops, PaPa and Skinny. He was the first-born child to Leon and Jean Curtis on November 16, 1954, in Stamford, Texas.

Richard is survived by his wife Alice Curtis of Combine, Texas, whom he lovingly referred to as Goon. His mother Jean Curtis of Breckenridge, Texas, his children James Curtis and wife Kaylee of Breckenridge, Texas, Jeannie Karl and husband Darren of Abilene, Texas and Chris Curtis of Breckenridge, Texas. Step-son Shawn Noe of Combine, Texas and step-daughter Breanna Pierce of Combine, Texas. He is survived by siblings Regina Whitt of Albany, Texas, Robby Curtis and wife Rell of Abilene, Texas, Becky Smith and husband Robert of Abilene, Texas and Ryan Curtis of Temple, Texas. He is also survived by his grandchildren Erin Bothun, Jamie Curtis, Jackson Curtis, Kyla Curtis, Connor Karl, Jace Karl, Ace Curtis, Kylie Hernandez, Maddison Noe, Sadie Noe and great grandson Atlas Bothun along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by Sarah Lofstrom and Emmie Ferree of Pennsylvania.

He was preceded in death by his father Leon Curtis, wife Mary Curtis, both sets of grandparents, brother Jay Curtis, nephew Curtis Proctor and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Richard moved to Breckenridge, Texas with his family where he grew up and graduated from Breckenridge High School. In 1973, he married Mary Loftis and they had 3 children, James, Jeannie and Chris. Mary preceded him in death in 1980. He bravely served in the United States Air Force, retiring after 20 years of service on May 31, 1994. He served at several Air Force bases including Lackland AFB, Myrtle Beach AFB, Holloman AFB, Incirlik Air Base in Turkey, an Airbase in Japan and finally retiring from Altus AFB. He served in the Gulf War as well as the Desert Storm War. Richard received many awards for outstanding service in his military career. After his retirement from military service, he moved to Abilene, Texas, where he attended Cisco Junior College and received his associates degree. He then attended McMurry University and transferred to the University of Texas at Dallas where he earned his degree in accounting. He then went on to earn a master’s degree in accounting. He worked in the accounting department at UPS, where he met his future wife, Alice. He also did accounting for Lehigh Hanson and was a consultant for US Brick. Before his retirement, he was employed by Meridian Brick.

Richard married Alice Noe on October 4, 2006. They made a home in Combine for the past 16 years where Richard enjoyed working in his yard (while wearing tall silly hats), fishing with his family, tooling around in his workshop and attending family gatherings. He always looked forward to gatherings as he knew his daughter would make cookies and treats especially for him to hide and bring home with him. After his and Alice’s retirement, they loved traveling in their RV with their fur babies Sophie and Ellie. He also loved to stay in contact with his military buddies and friends he grew up with in Breckenridge. He loved to keep up with family and friends on Facebook where he would love to make “Richard style” comments that were always good for a laugh. This is also a place where he loved to tell you how blessed and proud he was of his family and friends. He was a humble man that loved everyone and in turn, everyone loved him as no one ever had an unkind word to say about him. He was a kind man and would do anything to help or offer his advice.

Richard Curtis you were so loved by so many!! You were so humble that you didn’t even realize how much you were loved!! My heart aches right now and it will for a very long time. I loved you more than life 💔!! We had a wonderful 16 years together and I sure wasn’t ready to let you go. Thank you for loving me so unconditionally and being the dad, you didn’t have to be to my daughter. You were my best friend. I’m happy we got to spend the last 2 years camping and I’m sure gonna miss those adventures!! We were so blessed and thankful for all God gave us!! So now I’m just a little lost and I have no idea what to do without you.”

A visitation will be held Monday, December 26, 2022 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Roselawn Funeral Home, 1000 S Highway 175, Seagoville, Texas 75159. A funeral service with occur Tuesday, December 27, 2022 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at New Haven Baptist Church, 10110 Rylie Rd, Dallas, Texas. A committal service will occur Tuesday, December 27, 2022 from 1:30 to 1:50 PM at Dallas Ft. Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, Texas.

Pallbearers include Jed Cottle, Kevin Proctor, Brant Faulkner, Mike Folsom, Weldon Hussey and Grant Savage. Honorary pallbearers include James Curtis, Chris Curtis and Darren Karl.
