She spent her last months sitting by a window looking out at the beach on the Oregon coast in a very serene environment, which she truly enjoyed. She will always be remembered as a hardworking and loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother to all that knew and loved her. She was born in Coushatta, Louisiana on May 1, 1932 to Marie and Edward Giddings.
Sarah had a long life and very much enjoyed helping to raise her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. She was a country girl through and through. She loved being outdoors for any reason, including fishing, hunting, camping, gardening, and more. If the sun was shining, she wanted to be outside.
In 1950, she married Vernie Burton, a local boy from Coushatta, Louisiana, and they shared life together for 64 years until he passed away in 2015. She worked at Western Electric (now AT&T) for 20 years, retiring at 59 years old. After that, she traveled with Dad in his 18-wheeler as a long-haul trucker and they got to see a lot of the country together. Their most exciting trip was to Alaska, and she has the huge salmon, which she caught, mounted on her wall to prove it.
Besides her children, her greatest pride was in the home that she and her husband built together down on Cedar Creek Lake in Texas. In 1972, they bought waterfront land on the lake and started going there every weekend to clear the land and create their dream home. Then in 1974, when the last kid graduated and left home, they moved to Cedar Creek Lake, lived in a cab-over camper, and spent every non-working hour building a home. They named it “Blood, Sweat, & Tears.” Their home meant the world to both of them.
Sarah is survived by her son Carl Burton, her daughter Paula Snider and her daughter Barbara Doering. She also has grandchildren, Jason, Shanna, Nathan, Mark and Mike. They gave her great grandchildren of Tyson, Seth, Sophie, Wesley, Owen, Lue, Maggie and Mars.
She will be missed but never forgotten by all of her family and friends.
