Stan Hopkins, of Combine TX, passed away on March 26, 2023, in his home, surrounded by friends and family. He was born on September 13, 1940, in Dallas TX to Jack and Ruth Hopkins. He will be remembered as a loving and giving brother, husband, Dad, Poppy, and friend to all that knew and loved him.
Stan was a dedicated member of the Church of Christ, in which he and his wife made lifelong friends. He also supported his community in the role of a Kaufman County Constable, Crandall ISD School Board member, and the Fire Chief of his beloved Combine Volunteer Fire Department. Stan, along with his forever friends, Delta Mathis and Johnny Matlock, started the fire department in the early 1970s. He was incredibly proud of the community’s support of the department over the last 50 years, allowing for a new building, new trucks and a helipad recently dedicated to him personally.
Stan is well known in the local business community as the owner of Stan’s Place Paint & Body, Trophy Trucks, Stan’s Jr. Hall Auto Parts, Hopkins Industrial Park, and Stan Hopkins Company. His love of automobiles was exhibited not only in his work but in his lifelong support of dirt track racing and his collection of trucks, including the infamous yellow wrecker. When he wasn’t at the races, you could find him on the deer lease where he had more fun feeding and visiting with his hunting buddies than killing.
Family was super important to Stan. His love for Wanda and the life they created was his most valued accomplishment. He loved for Wanda to cook and have everyone gather as often as possible. He and Wanda followed his kids and grandchildren all over the state to watch dance, sports, racing, and school events.
Stan is survived by Wanda Polley Hopkins, his wife of 63 years, his son Terry Hopkins and wife Cindy, son Cheyney Hopkins and wife Angie, and daughter Dinah Cannefax and husband Brian. Grandchildren include Hunter Hopkins, Micheal Hopkins and wife Laura, Meghan Benitez, Carl Linn and wife Angie, Lacey Hopkins and husband Chris, Chelsea Hogue and husband Stetson, Katie Fugitt and husband Collin, Skyler Hopkins, Ethan Cannefax and wife Rhonda, and Eli Cannefax.
