David was born on July 26, 1948, in Dallas, Texas, to Ralph and Helen Haggard. He was raised in Kemp, Texas, alongside his siblings, where he attended school before enlisting in the United States Army in 1966. During his military service, he was stationed in Germany and served as an Executive Chef. He earned the rank of Specialist First Class and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and an Expert Rifle Commendation before his honorable separation in 1972.
After his service, David returned home to be with his family and attended junior college, where he earned certifications in welding and metal fabrication—skills that led to a long and successful career in the field.
David met the love of his life, Karen Vance, and the two were married on November 30, 1979, in Crandall, Texas.
Outside of work, David was an avid APA pool player who enjoyed frequenting Outlaws Saloon in Terrell and The Stables Club in Forney. He also had a lifelong passion for hunting, fishing, and race cars. Known for his friendly nature, David never met a stranger and cherished time spent with his family and many friends.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Karen Haggard; his son, James Ray Haggard of Kaufman, TX; and stepdaughter, Brandi Terrell Lee of Henderson, NV. He also leaves behind his grandchildren: Jacob Tolen of Jacksonville, FL; Megan Begley of Henderson, NV; Shelbi Fairchild of Canyon, TX; Emma Fairchild of Southlake, TX; Paden Lee of Henderson, NV; and Keilee Haggard of Kaufman, TX; along with three great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Helen Haggard; his son, Thomas David Haggard Jr.; his daughter, Cynthia Ann Fairchild; and his siblings, Jimmy Haggard, Billy Haggard, and Linda Johnson.
David will be remembered as a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, a proud veteran, and a friend to all who knew and loved him.
