Erica Michelle Buchanan- born in 1977 on a Tuesday, January 4 in Whittier CA. And she was a perfect little baby girl to her parents L.J. and Toni. She grew up loving to play with dolls and make up like a lot of little girls do, but she also liked to play with the boys also. She went into sports to "beat the boys" to have a little more fun! She enjoyed soccer, baseball and swimming and Flag Team in high school. Overcoming obstacles such as dyslexia in the third grade, she knew that sometimes she had to work harder than others to get the end result she wanted. With some sort of stray animal popping up at her parents home, she developed a love of animals at an early age. The family had 2 cats and 4 dogs before she graduated from high school. While on Labor Day vacations, the family would alternate vacation destinations between SeaWorld and Lake Shasta. Erica enjoyed the San Diego vacations immensely and dreamed of working with animals as an adult. while in Southern California, the ocean was always one of her favorite places/things to do. Her younger years were spent there in Whittier until August of 1992. In Redding, she continued on in high school with some sports and focused on learning in school and life. She grew a large number of friends as she was full of good energy and had an awesome heart. She graduated high school and fully bloomed into the free spirit as everyone knew today. She settled down in Monterey Ca in 2008, finding love, motherhood, and the industry that she worked in for over a decade.

She leaves behind a Son-Achilles, a daughter-Bryanna, Mother-Toni, Brother- John, a niece, a nephew, a sister in law and multiple cousins, aunts, uncles and multiple people who considered her as family.

I met Erica and Achilles when he was attending Foothill School in Monterey. She was a true mama bear when it came to being there for her son. I am so very sorry to hear of her passing, she had a huge heart and love for children and animals and we always enjoyed our visits with her.
Sending my thoughts and prayers to the family♥️🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻♥️

Erica,
I'm so grateful for your kind heart. Thank you so much for trusting me with the person you love the most. Your baby boy Achilles. As I'm writing this in tears, you have be weighing so heavy on my mind. I know so many people will miss you but no one will miss you more then your son. I'm picking Achilles up for lunch this afternoon. I haven't seen him since your passing. I'm hoping to make him smile and give him a little peace. I want you to know I'll always be there for him. 💙 I love that little guy with all my heart.

I was first fortunate to be your predecessor as an HBIC receptionist! I was beyond fortunate to then get to know you as a friend! What I got to learn so quickly in our short time is that we had our “gentle giant’s” son’s that were so close in age and were going to be destined to be future bff’s. We talked about all the trouble we would get into and couldn’t wait! You were impressed with how your precious Sir Hoss trusted me so quickly! I saw him for the first time today since you passed. He looked happy to see me as You taught me how to greet him as you do! You are beyond missed friend and kindred spirit! RIP ❤️🙏😔 PS Your kitties are very loved and cared for too!

I will always remember Erica for the Sweet Gentle Soul she was and her love for animals. She helped me save many dogs by fostering them and helping them heal until they were adopted. I was so Happy and Excited when she told me she wanted to adopt Ranger and make him her service dog. She was so proud of him and loved showing me how big he was getting. Erica has had and always will have a special place in my heart. It's a devastating loss. My Deepest Condolences to Achilles & Family.
Love Always Erica,

The memories I have of high school always have Erica in them. We used to drive around town in her mustang with the top down blaring Aerosmith. Her laugh and infectious smile will never be forgotten. Fly high with the angels Erica your memory will live on.

I had the privilege of working at the veterinary emergency clinic with Erica. She was a beautiful soul inside and out. We quickly became friends and I'm deeply saddened and shocked by her passing. She will always be remembered for her compassion with animals and humans alike. Her infectious smile and her love for her son Achilles. I will never forget her huge smile she always had beaming. My heart goes out to her son, her mother, her brother, and the rest of her family. GOD BLESS that beautiful woman.
