Evangelist Gladys C. Johnson was born Gladys C Corbett, May 16, 1928 in Columbia, South Carolina to Deacon Harry Corbett of Anse-à-Galets, Haiti and Della Corbett of Columbia, South Carolina. In 1941 she met and subsequently married John H Johnson of Savannah Georgia.
Mr. Johnson enlisted in the Army in 1948 he fought in the Korean War and Vietnam War as his wife and kids learned to enjoy the mobility of military life. Their growing family was stationed to Fort Dix New Jersey, Frankfurt Germany, Presidio of San Francisco and Mr. Johnson’s last duty station, Fort Ord California. In 1970 the family moved “outside the gates“to Seaside, California.
Once settled into Civilian life, and with professional and business licenses in hand – Evangelist Johnson opened, owned and operated “Johnsons Beauty Shoppe & Cosmetic Supplies” on Broadway Avenue in Seaside California for over 25 years.
Evangelist Gladys C Johnson is a licensed Evangelist with the Church of God in Christ, Inc. She held a cosmetology license with the California Board of Barbering and Cosmetology. She is an International Seminary Alumna, with a Diploma in Practical Theology. She has written over 400 topical religious presentations and lessons under the auspices of the “New Life I. J. Ministries” she founded.
Early on in her ministry, Evangelist Johnson created, produced and host a Sunday morning radio religious broadcast on KRML FM in Carmel California. She most recently can be seen on her YouTube vlogs entitled “Be inspired“ sharing her gospel teachings under her nom-de-plume - “The Lady with the word”
Evangelist Gladys C. Johnson passed peacefully on Monday July 2, 2018 at Community Hospital of Monterey California with family and friends close.
She is preceded in death by the January 12, 2003 passing of her husband of 64 years, First Sargent, John H Johnson Sr. (Retired) and survived by their “tribe of eighty one (81)”; twenty one (21) grand kids, thirty three (33) great grand kids, eighteen (18) great, great grandchildren; Three (3) daughters; Mrs. Ruth Anthony, Mrs. Delores Smalls, and Mrs. Carolyn Hayes of Savannah Georgia. Miss Gwendolyn Johnson, Mrs. Khadijah Bilal of Gainesville Florida; and Mrs. Tina Gonsales of Henderson Nevada.
