Joseph A. Coleman

In 1947, he moved to Chicago where he attended George Washington Carver Elementary School. He graduated from Emil G. Hirsch High School in 1961 in Chicago. He joined the military in 1963 and was honorably discharged as a E-5 in 1967, earning marksmanship (rifle) badge, good conduct medal and 2 letters of appreciation.

In 1968 on the Monterey Peninsula, he married Eleanor Estelle Spencer and raised a family with three sons; Edward Spencer III, Maurice Spencer and Glenn David Spencer. The family were members of First Southern Baptist Church in Pacific Grove for many years.

In 1997, he separated from Eleanor and they remained good friends. He later met Ms. Tina Hockenhull in Seaside and remained with her until her passing in 2020.

Joseph had much love to give and throughout his life formed many lasting bonds. In 2021, he married Kimberly White and formed a loving and caring marriage until his sudden passing.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Elijah and Emma Curry Coleman, siblings; Fredonia Conners, John Coleman, Mary Tilford, Elijah N. Coleman, Eleanor Coleman and Tina Hockenhull.

He is survived by his sisters; Alfreda Wright, Etta Planje Good, Rev. Dr. Emily Edwards and Ezra Crowder, his sons; Glenn Spencer (Colleen Morgan) and Maurice Spencer (Deborah), Step-children; Tamiko Beckwith, J'na Carter, Franklin Feliz, grandchildren; Nicholas & Danielle Spencer, Madison Morgan, Olivia Roberts, Kenyatta Springer and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Joseph showed love and concern for all of those in his presence and afar. Family members are heart broken and will surely miss his smile and personality. He will be forever remembered as a loving Dad, Brother, Uncle and friend.
