Otis James Carmichael, Jr., of West Covina, CA went home to be with the Lord, June 7, 2013, in Chicago, Illinois, following a tragic accident.
Otis was born in Fort Ord, CA, October 9, 1968. He was raised in Seaside, CA and attended Highland Elementary School, Martin Luther King JR, Junior High School, and graduated from Seaside High School in 1987.
Otis and Maria met July 28, 1988 and were inseparable for several years. They were married July 26, 1997 and had been married for 15 years.
Otis pursued his Bachelor’s in Sociology following attending MPC and Whittier College as a non-traditional student. Also, as a result of his athleticism, he played football at both schools and contributed to their winning championships.
Otis worked as a Mental Health Worked helping children and their families deal with behavioral problems and mental disorders. He had just completed his second year of a four year program at Azusa Pacific University in his pursuit of a Master’s in Social Work to becoming a clinician. He appreciated all the knowledge he acquired in class and his first placement at Metro State Hospital.
Otis is survived by his wife, Maria Modesta Carmichael; three children, Annalyssa, Elexix, and Idrique Carmichael. He is survived by his father, Otis James (Ruby) Carmichael, Sr. and his mother, Joann (Alfred) Kenney; and Godfather, John Nash, Jr. He is also survived by his sister, Anji, (Rick) Brown, brother, Nathaniel and his daughter, Naiya; a nephew, Tre and niece, Adrianna, and millions of family and friends who loved him.
