Patrick Edward McEvoy

Patrick Edward McEvoy, 65, of Monterey, passed away on July 1, 2026. He spent his final days surrounded by those who loved him most. During a career spanning more than four decades, Patrick worked in nearly every facet of live theater. Those who knew Patrick best will remember him not only for the unforgettable performances he gave onstage, but also for the roles he cherished most of all—son, brother, uncle, husband and friend.

Patrick was born on April 18, 1961 in Redwood City, California to Dorothy (McKay) Reese and Edward McEvoy. His maternal family had resided in Monterey County for two generations prior to his birth. Patrick was raised in Carmel by his mother and stepfather, Allan Harrop. His grandmother, Wilma McKay, who began her own theater career at The Outdoor Forest Theater in the 1920s, introduced him to the stage by enrolling him in The Children’s Experimental Theatre in Carmel.

After graduating from Carmel High School in 1979, Patrick was awarded a Comprehensive Employment and Training Act grant. He joined the theater department at Monterey Peninsula College as a scenic artist in 1981. Over the next three decades, Patrick was a pillar of Monterey Peninsula College’s theater department, serving as master carpenter, actor and director. In 2012, he joined Pacific Repertory Theatre as technical director, where he transformed stages into extraordinary worlds, suspending reality for thousands of audience members for 14 years. The sets he designed for Jesus Christ Superstar, Peter and the Starcatcher, CATS, and Billy Elliot were among his personal favorites. Patrick’s favorite roles as a performer included Ebeneezer Scrooge in A Christmas Carol, Rene Gallimard in M. Butterfly and The Comte de Guiche in Cyrano de Bergerac.

Patrick was known not only for the worlds he built onstage, but also the generosity, wit and quiet dedication he brought to the people he loved. Away from the theater, Patrick was an avid Elvis Costello fan, a meticulous model maker, and a lifelong Trekkie. Some of his happiest days were spent at Disneyland with his wife, Tiffany.

Patrick is survived by his wife, Tiffany Torrez; his sisters, Kathleen O’Connell and Heather Hunt; his nieces Molly Lorenzi, Kirsten Wehle and Chelsea Trombly; his nephews, Casper McEvoy-Zomosa, James Branaman, Liam O’Connell, Logan Hunt; and his sister-in-law, Tatiana Zomosa. He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy (McKay) Reese; his father, Edward McEvoy; his sister, Megan Reis; his brother, Peter McEvoy; and stepfathers, Robert Reese, and Allan Harrop.

A celebration of Patrick’s life will be held on September 14, 2026 at 7:30 p.m. at The Golden Bough Playhouse, 851 Monte Verde St. Carmel-by-the-Sea.
