Al was born in Seattle on September 27, 1922. By the age of 5 Al was working in downtown Seattle selling pencils, by age 7 he had added a successful paper route; from then on he never stopped working or volunteering well into his late 80’s.
During his school-age years at Concord Elementary & Middle School and O’Dea High School he developed a love of baseball; at the age of 13 Al was featured in the Seattle Times after winning a pitching competition. After graduating from O’Dea, Al went to radio school where he learned Morse Code and became a radio operator with the Merchant Marines during World War II from 1941 – 1945.
Al continued in his career with the Federal Aviation Administration, moving to Nome, Alaska then to Mullen Pass, Idaho, eventually returning to Seattle where he met & married Kathryn and was a loving father to Laura, Maureen and Kevin.
Notes from Laura, Maureen & Kevin
Our Dad had an aptitude to build, repair, or fix anything and our house became a continual work in progress. However the most important thing Dad built was our family. He taught us by example: Patience, integrity, honesty, loyalty, and above all else, a hearty sense of humor.
Dad would often tell such corny jokes you couldn’t help but laugh, and he was usually laughing louder than anyone. To our mom’s chagrin Dad also taught us how to swear; A litany of words we had never heard but heard frequently throughout the years, particularly when watching Mariner games.
When we were teenagers Dad would stand outside our bedroom doors to try to rouse his lazy crew into action by shouting “Rise & Shine with the Buscio line”. Now Dad, it’s our turn: You have risen, and your light will always shine bright for us and all who knew you. Rise & Shine with God, Dad.
Al was preceded in death by his father Francesco & mother Angelantonio, his sister Mary and brother Fred. He is survived by his wife Kathryn, daughters Laura & Maureen, son Kevin & wife Tricia, nephews Frankie & wife Margie Cristofaro, Ludy & wife Donna Cristofaro and countless friends and colleagues.
