Alesa Hammond (Miles) Andrew, 83, passed away September 28, 2020 at her home in Bremerton Washington in the company of her children and friend Sarge. She was born April 20, 1937 in Portland, Oregon but was a life-long Washington resident who had lived in multiple locations in the Puget Sound region.
Alesa grew up in Kirkland where she attended high school. She got her nursing degree from Everett Community College in 1969, worked her first year in Republic, Washington and then worked for Group Health Cooperative (now part of Kaiser Permanente) as a post op or nursery nurse (her favorite assignment) until her retirement in 2000.
Alesa was a strong advocate for the care of abandoned and abused animals volunteering in shelters and fostering litters of kittens. She supported food banks and women’s shelters. Alesa was a founding member of Quilts from the Heart, a group that provides quilts to numerous women’s shelters, foster child groups, babies, and Quilts of Valor for military personnel. She was an active member of Silverdale United Methodist Church and their ministries as well as The Walk to Emmaus and Kairos programs.
Alesa is survived by her dear friend and companion Foy Sargent (Sarge), her son Timothy and daughter-in-law Sue Miles of Miles City, MT, her daughter Diane and son-in-law Larry Thomason of Poquoson, VA, nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, stepson Mark Andrew, stepdaughters Tracy Bayley and Miriam McDonald, her sister Laila Adams and two nephews, Carl Uhlman and wife Susan Fenner and Dan and wife Georgina Uhlman.
Arrangements are being handled by Evergreen-Washelli Funeral Home; no services are planned at this time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to an animal shelter, women’s shelter, food bank, cancer research (sarcoma) or Quilts from the Heart.
