Born on March 29th, 1980 in Anchorage Alaska, Alex was the firstborn child of Barry Yocom and Sandra Gartland. He was a loving husband to Heidi, a devoted father to Soren and Jensine - ‘Sina’, and a big brother to Lauren (Brandon) and Grace (Andrew) He also cherished his role as an uncle to Lilje, Josiah, Annabel, Henry, Hatcher, Ainsley, and his newest nephew, Kiernan, whom he was eagerly looking forward to meeting.
To those who were fortunate enough to know him, Alex was a man with a big heart—caring, generous, and always putting his family first. He was the first to lend a helping hand, or offer to make the most delicious sous vide steak dinner you’ve ever had. His warmth and willingness to serve those around him were a testament to his character.
Alex had a passion for technology and gadgets, always on the lookout for the latest innovations. He loved to tinker, solve problems, and find solutions to any challenge that came his way. This mentality served him well during his successful 20+ year career in the fishing industry in the Bering Sea of Alaska, where he started as a processor and eventually became a Chief Engineer Unlimited. One of his most notable achievements was his work onboard the C/P Starbound. But it was his unwavering dedication to his family that truly defined him—Alex found his greatest fulfillment in caring for his children.
A true merrymaker, Alex was known for his love of fun and his ability to bring joy wherever he went. He was the spark for adventure, always encouraging spontaneity and making sure everyone around him had a good time. Whether it was taking his e-bike for a ride around the neighborhood or setting up a giant tree swing for his kids in the mountains of Leavenworth. Alex knew how to embrace the moment and make it memorable.
His zest for life, generosity, and love for his family will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
