AJ had a knack for trivia, and maintained a deep familiarity with popular culture. He didn't have to like something to be an expert about it, but when he loved something he became a bottomless well of knowledge. He was a walking encyclopedia on professional wrestling of all kinds, from the WWE to the tiniest indie leagues, and met every new season of Seahawks football or Mariners baseball with boundless enthusiasm. When he loved a film, he obsessed over each individual frame. He had at least one earbud in at all times, maintaining a score of his favorite music (or a narrative from his favorite podcasts) wherever he went. Above all he was a sweet and loving son, partner, daddy, and a sensitive friend to those fortunate enough to know him well.
He was born in Seattle to Tony and Julie Tigner, then attended Seattle's St. Matthew School and Bishop Blanchet High School (Class of 2005 with honors), received a B.A. with Honors in Creative Writing with a minor in Film Studies from Western Washington University (Class of 2009), and studied for a semester at Ireland's University of Galway. AJ wrote about cinema, television, trivia, wrestling, and dining for The Seattle Weekly, PopMatters, Paste, and Seattlest, and maintained thriving creative partnerships with his friends, writing stories and screenplays. He also worked as events and facilities administrator for the law firm of Davis Wright Tremaine and as digital marketing coordinator for Sunset Auto Family.
He is survived by his loving partner of sixteen years, Sarah Lloyd, his cherished three-year-old daughter Miriam, mother Julie Conley (Mike), father Tony Tigner (Dee); grandfather Ira Tigner; uncles Stephen McIver (Linda), Jimm McIver (Caitlin Duffy), Dan Cearns (Teresa) and Tom Tigner (Shay); cousins Grace, Jackson, Lachlan, Dashiell, Stephanie, Skyler, Slater, Sierra, Jeff, and Kami. He was preceded in death by his Grandma Mary Ann & Grampa John McIver, Grandma Nadine Tigner and cousin Spencer Cearns. A Celebration of Life will be held from 5 p.m. until sunset on Thursday, May 14 at Golden Gardens Bathhouse (8498 Seaview Place NW, Seattle, WA). First-come-first-served free parking is available, and hearty hors d'oeuvres and non-alcoholic beverages will be served.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Sarah & Miriam to help with living expenses while Sarah finishes her graduate school program as a single parent. Any remaining funds will be deposited into Miriam's existing college savings account. Sarah's Venmo account: @sarahannelloyd
