On Tuesday, July 27, 2021, Anthony Dee Torres passed away at home in the loving presence of his mom & dad. Just sixty years old, he lived a full life, much longer than the doctors ever thought he would.
Tony, or “Big Tony” as family & friends knew him, was born with a rare brain tumor. The doctors didn’t have much hope for his life yet he persevered and beat the odds of living life to his fullest. He participated and won gold, silver & bronze in many events with the Special Olympics from individual sports to team sports like softball and basketball. He rode his bike every day to his job as a dishwasher until his seizures forced him to quit. Yet he still participated in Friday Night Club night, bowling, and various activities through the Kent Resource Center up until life changed for everyone last year. Tony was a master at putting together puzzles. He made it look so easy, and WOW, the puzzles he did were amazing! He also LOVED fishing and camping with his family. He saw much of the USA in his life happy to be seeing it all - the ultimate “cruise with” guy. He was able to visit many other wonderful places like Hawaii & Puerto Rico later in life.
Though his medications changed him physically & emotionally over the years, we wish everyone knew Tony the way we knew Tony. His smile lit up a room - it was a smile you could feel, truly genuine. He was a kind person who made friends wherever he went. He remembered & treasured everyone, writing names & places on his photos.
Tony was loved by many family & friends. He was a beloved son, brother and uncle. Tony is survived by his dad, George his mom Pat. His brothers George and Ed and his sisters Jodi and Lisa, along with many nieces & nephews. He will be dearly missed by all who knew & loved him.
