Apolinario “Pol” Malaluan Macatangay, aged 76, passed away at Northwest Hospital on June 22, 2022. He was born to the late Tomas and Victoriana Macatangay in Calatagan, Batangas, Philippines on December 6, 1945. He graduated from Immaculate Conception College High School in 1963 and from Balayan College in 1967. He immigrated to Seattle in May 1979 and was employed by the US Post Office, where he worked for 20+ years.
Pol was an avid Seattle and UW sports fan and loved squidding, clamming, and crabbing. He also enjoyed repurposing old furniture and household goods for his family to use in new ways, embodying the adage "Waste not, want not."
Pol was a loving father, husband, grandfather, and friend to all. He helped raise his children with discipline and humility, and was affectionately called Dude by his daughters and Mamay by his grandchildren. He was a kind and soft-spoken soul with an easy smile and generous sense of humor and will be dearly missed by his loved ones.
Pol is survived by his wife of 44 years, Aurora; his son, Ariel, and daughter-in-law, Mary Anne; his daughters, Annabelle, Phyllis, and Leah, and sons-in-law, Gemeniano, Kohei, and James; his grandchildren, RJ, Michael, Ira, James Arven, Jack, and Tristan; and many siblings, nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his siblings, Rufino, Wensislao, and Anatalio; his first wife, Anatolia; and his parents.
A visitation for Apolinario will be held Tuesday, July 5, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM , followed by a Recitation of The Rosary at 6:00PM; all at Evergreen Washelli Funeral Home, 11111 Aurora Ave N, Seattle, WA 98133
Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, July 6, 2022, 11:00AM at St. Matthew Catholic Parish, 1240 NE 127th St, Seattle, WA 98125, followed by committal at Holyrood Catholic Cemetery, 205 NE 205th St, Shoreline, WA 98155.
