Augusta Mitchell

The sun rose in Augusta Griffin-Mitchell's life August 24,1940 and set May 15, 2016. She was born in Richmond Arkansas to the late Mrs. Otbie Bowles Jetton and Mr. Ruben D. Griffin. Her early years were spent with her late grandparents, Mr. Roy August and Mrs. Lula Bowles who introduced her to Christ at an early age.

She was a member of the Red Oak Grover Missionary Baptist Church in Ashdown Arkansas where she was a faithful committed Deaconess and Choir Member until she moved to Seattle in 2003. She joined the Rosehill Missionary Baptist Church serving faithfully on both the Mission and Mother Board.

On February 8,1959, she married Tommy L. Pennon Sr., and to their union were children, Louetta Marie Pennon Florence (Terrill) of Wichita Kansas, Tommy Lenzy Pennon Jr., of Lovelady Texas and Jacqueline Annett Pennon of Kent Washington. She was a dedicated and devoted mother of three until death! She had two Goddaughters, Elizabeth Pearson of Mesquite, Texas and Yolanda Brooks of Fir Crest, Washington.

On September 26,1981, she married Roy L. Mitchell who preceded her in death, March 7,1996. To their union were no children.

Augusta was the oldest of sixteen children of whom four preceded her in death, Pearlie Mae, Charlie Mae, Curtis Lee and Jesse Leo. She leaves behind five brothers (Lee Autry, Earnest, Bennie, Quincy and Rodney and six sisters (Mae Lou, Ethel, Learleen, Brenda, Mary and Cleo).

She had nine grandchildren; Michael, Brian, Timothy, Terrill Jr., Douglas, Latoya, Veronica, Demarcus and Tyler. She leaves behind a host of beautiful great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
