Bee was a PE teacher, homemaker, loving wife and mother, active volunteer, tennis player, snow and water skier and avid sailor. Bee loved being part of a church community and most recently was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Washington, NC.
She met her husband of 62 years, J Stewart Whitmore, MD, when they both attended Washington University in St. Louis, MO. She is survived by her two daughters, Jessica W. Pouppirt of Clementon, NJ and Susan Whitmore of Seattle, WA; four grandchildren, Lindsey Pouppirt Middleton, Nicole R. Pouppirt, MD, Andrew J. Pouppirt and Elliott M. Gray and her son-in-law, Michael Gray.
Bee was remembered by granddaughter Lindsey as "a strong and elegant women who taught us that every day is a good day for a skirt and lipstick, a brisk walk around the neighborhood, and after three healthy meals, a cookie and a half of scoop of ice cream with decaf coffee served in a china tea cup. In my grandmother's mind perfection was achievable, so there was no use in complaining when you could be bettering your circumstances instead."
